Google Me.

For Your Information:

Today, as I was at work with nothing to do, I searched for "Rachel Cates" on Google. The first thing to come up is my IMDB profile which is probably the coolest thing ever. Now if I only knew how Google makes the choice of which web page to bring up first this discovery would be a lot cooler. I think it has something to do with the most popular search under that name. So, I mean, not to brag, but when looking up Rachel Cates I win. TAKE THAT.

But.

I bet that is just me looking up Rachel Cates ten million times a day. So, you know.

Onto other things.

I gave my two weeks at Best Buy yesterday. I'm done the 9th. I'm pretty excited about that. I have always loved being a customer at Best Buy. Not so much an employee.

Um.

Well. I think that's all.

Enjoy your Thursdays. Tonight I'm watching the World Series of Pop Culture which I have been known to be pretty good at. I'll probably have a bomb pop too.

Mr. Pibbs plus Red Vines equals CRAZY DELICIOUS.

And I thought America was a mess

The Middle East confuses the shit out of me. I have a lot of time on my hands at work and I use it by reading the news. Trying to read anything about Israel or Lebanon and what is going on there requires years of back history and understanding that requires back history in itself. How can some countries recognize a party like Hezbollah as a political party when others label it a terrorist group?

I also get the feeling that a lot of Americans don't give a shit about the situation. Whether or not they know or care about the situation, many of them wouldn't understand it. These people in Lebanon are moving into the country with their families so that when Israel drops more bombs they have a greater chance of being safe. How can you live like that? It's unconceivable to me to up and move, leave my job and thus my income, my home and investments as well as my friends. These people are used to it. They have had to do it before. It doesn't seem like a life to me. Americans would find that completely unacceptable.

If Americas biggest airport was bombed so that air traffic was forced to be grounded the repercussions would be enormous. Beirut Airport in Lebanon, the ONLY commercial airport in the country, has had its three runways bombed grounding all in bound and out bound travel. I can only imagine the economic problems this will cause not to mention how pissed off I would be if Israel bombed my only airport. I just feel like bombing that airport was a horrendous move. I know that Israel is trying to locate its kidnapped troops and get them home but making it so they can't be flown out of the country effects a few more people then the organization holding them captive.

I'm no expert but why does it always seem like the Middle East is out of control?

You could say I'm slightly paranoid about some things. Most times when I go to a bar and hand over my real license which says I'm legal to drink I think they are going to say it's a fake and toss me out. Other times when I post things on peoples My Space or leave comments on friends live journals I'm worried they might not get what I'm trying to say and misconstrue it for something else. Boys I like make me pretty parinod sometimes too. Lately I've just been paranoid about not finding a job in NY and then fucking up my life and moving back to Spokane where I would end up working at Best Buy for the rest of my life and probably dieing at an early age from some weird disease that's caused by all the wild cats I try and keep in my small government subsidized apartment.

Some weeks when I look for jobs on Mandy or Entertainment Jobs (both websites) I find many jobs that interest me that I'm more than likely qualified for. Other times I find nothing or jobs that require a college degree. Now, forget my paranoia problems, but sometimes it really pisses me off when a college degree is required. Sometimes it is important to have a degree in the field you want to work in. But today while I was looking at movie jobs a college degree was required for a simple office assistant job. I can multi-task my ass off and the amount of things I can remember at one time is stupid. College didn't teach me that shit and some people can’t learn it. I can run an office and my life as well as remember all of the details of someone elses life at the same time. I didn't learn any computer skills in college and it certainly didn't give me any multi-line phone experience. The kind of skills these HR people are looking for really aren't something you learn in a class. So why is a degree required? Sure, I can't spell, but if I had graduated college do you think that would have changed? Maybe back in third grade when my spelling habits developed horribly I could have done something about them. Now my spell check and I get along well and if I look stupid for spelling idiot wrong on my My Space it's my own fault. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I'm paranoid that not having a college degree is going to screw me out of a few jobs. But, I'm not worried about it enough to go back to school and move later in life. Who knows. I guess I really am just paranoid.

Other than that I'm really excited to move. I realized this morning that once I move to NY I'll never move back to Spokane. There really is no market in Spokane for the type of work I want to do and if I'm successful in it I will have no reason to move back. It's just a weird feeling to know you'll be leaving a place forever and the longest you'll ever be back there for is a week or so. I just keep realizing all these things about moving that I have never had to deal with before.

Onto more swashbuckling topics.

Dead Mans Chest kind of left me feeling cheap. The first time I saw it I was like man, that really wasn't as good as the first one and it really didn't feel like an Empire Strikes Back or a Two Towers. I saw it again and ended up liking it more the second time but I still don't think it was as good as the first. I did, however, love Superman Returns. I've seen it twice as well and I think it's seriously great. The thing I love most about it is his vulnerability. My favorite scene in Spiderman 2 is were he has to practically kill himself to stop the train from falling off the end of the track and his mask is off and he passes out. Everyone can see his face and it makes them realize he is like everyone else. Towards the end of Superman I felt that way too. And the first big action sequence in Superman was really sweet. I always see movies like that and think that shit would be awesome to work on. The sets would be huge and the amount of knowledge you could acquire on a movie like that would be phenomenal. Granted, a lot of the cool stuff would be post production graphics work, but shooting would still be awesome.

I think this has just turned into like a Rachel free for all on subjects that only interest me. So, I will depart with this: I want to work on the sound real of a huge action move and see what it's like.

Blu-Ray Vs. HD-DVD

So today, as work is a little slow, I've been cruising the web to learn about things that I don't know about. Yeah. So, this whole Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD thing was of interest to me and this article, see above, helped me gain a general, if not a little more in-depth knowledge of the situation at hand. I'm not really sure if this will interest any of you but as long as I work at Best Buy and as long as I'm buying movies and devices to play movies on, Id like to know what formats are available to me and what the benefits of both are. So, read that. You might just feel smarter.

Do it.

So, some things I would like to touch on in today's blog:

-Starbucks
-Money
-Sunburns
-Recent Movies

First off I would like to paint a picture for you. One that incorporates my family at, incidentally, a family BBQ. As we all sit around the table discussing various Cates family hot topics such as my Grandpa's new grinder and my great grandmas new assisted living home, my aunt Lori brings up the new Starbucks on Francis. Its got this crazy siding on some of it that happens to be copper. Needless to say some hooligan in Spokane thought it would be a cleaver idea to throw an egg on it. When Lori reviled this fact to everyone else there was a drastic intake of breath. How could someone deface the new Starbucks? The copper siding! It would be stained forever. It was then I realized that we were talking about this Starbucks as a national monument. Like, this shit was today's top news story. The genuine look of concern on everyone's face was hilarious. What kind of a family would take that so seriously? Could this conversation happen at other family BBQs in America? Its not like my family is clueless. They are very political and love to bicker with each other about various things for example the world and those who lead it. At the same time they get caught up in meaningless conversation.
Now, every time I pass that Starbucks, I look for the alleged egg stain. Sometimes I think I spot it. Sometimes I see nothing at all. Never the less that Starbucks reminds me of how seriously people take things that aren't serious at all.

I don't really have much to say about money. I was just thinking the other day that I don't deal with money in a physical sense. All of the money I use is electronic. Just numbers. I hate to carry cash and I use my debit card all the time. My checks are directly deposited and I can see my account balance as well as recent activity online just as easily as the next guy. What are the advantages of carrying cash? It is faster? More secure? Does it help you to not spend as much? Having a few dollars around all the time to paying for parking or a pack of gum isn't so bad but I forget I have money and then I don't even use it when an opportune time arises. But, as I will be moving to NY soon, I feel like I might have to get used to using cash more often. Maybe in a cab or on the subway or at a hot dog cart for lunch. I guess I'll know better when I get there but I do loves my debit card.

So, this weekend being 4th of July ish and very hot led to my favorite aliment: The Sunburn. When I went to Mexico in May I pretty much killed myself with sunburns. After I returned home and took at trip to George Washington to Sasquatch I again sunburnt myself. The skin that has gotten it the worse is my beloved shoulders and my chest. All of my skin peeled off from the Mexico burn, especially in those areas and so whats being burnt now is new skin. I feel like in the recent months I have become a shoe in for cancer. Its not like Im not wearing the sun screen. I am trying to prevent the burns but its like they love me too much not to be apart of my life. I know, I'll probably die at 30 but the only thing I could do to prevent them all together would be to stay out of the sun and with my jam packed life I just don't see that happening. This, however, is good for Banana Boat because I predict I will single handedly up there profits for this quarter. I am always looking out for American corporations. Also, Im not really sure if they are an American corporation. Kisses!

Yo, so I have seen Superman Returns and The Devil Wears Prada in the last few days and I have to say I'm happy with both. I've now seen Superman twice and enjoyed it both times. I have to admit I only went to see The Devil Wears Prada because I heard the outfits were outstanding but the story and the acting were wonderful so it made my movie going experience superb. So, in short you should see both and also don't forget that Dead Mans Chest comes out the 7th. But, I feel like all of you that read this could never forget that fact. Also, all of you should be reading this. Just incase you like, forgot, or like, you thought I was dead or maybe someone told you I was dead. I'm not. Read this.
